How does IPL work?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses various light wavelengths to reach the second layer of your skin, known as your dermis, without harming or irritating the surface of your skin. With each photo flash of light, pigments in your skin cells absorb the energy and quickly convert it into heat.

This forces discolored pigments in your skin to break apart. Over time, these shattered pigment fragments get pushed to the surface of your skin and shed away. 

At the same time, healthier skin tissues and skin-tightening collagen build up from the deepest layers. So as older, damaged skin sheds away, more youthful skin makes its way to the surface.

Is there any downtime after IPL?

Downtime is minimal. Depending on your skin tone, you may experience some facial flushing and redness. This is more common if you’re fair-skinned. This issue tends to fade within a few hours.

Your skin will be very sensitive to the sun for several days after an IPL treatment. It’s important to apply sunscreen liberally and wear protective clothing (like a hat) if you’re going outdoors for an extended period.

How many IPL treatments do I need?
